What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability is available as it has been resolved by correcting the size constant used in the wwan_rtnl_policy netlink attribute parsing. Users and administrators should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation. No alternative workarounds or temporary mitigations are indicated in the advisory.

Description

CVE-2024-50128 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's wwan network subsystem. It involves a global out-of-bounds (OOB) read caused by assigning an incorrect larger maximum type size in the wwan_rtnl_policy variable when parsing netlink attributes. This flaw is similar to a previously fixed OOB bug in the rmnet_policy. The issue can lead to a kernel memory read beyond intended bounds, potentially causing denial of service or information disclosure. The vulnerability was detected by Kernel Address Sanitizer (KASAN) and fixed by correcting the size used in attribute parsing.
