What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available as the vulnerability has been resolved in the Linux kernel. Users should update to the fixed kernel version containing the patch that properly handles SKB allocation failures in the octeon_ep driver. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

CVE-2024-50145 addresses a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's octeon_ep driver where failure to handle SKB (socket buffer) allocation errors in __octep_oq_process_rx() could lead to a NULL pointer dereference. The issue arises when build_skb() returns NULL due to memory allocation failure during NAPI polling. The fix involves proper handling of allocation failures by skipping packet processing and cleaning up fragment buffers, preventing crashes and inaccurate Rx queue pressure reporting.
