What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to avoid calling profile->cleanup when the profile pointer is NULL after a rollback failure. Users should update to a kernel version that includes this fix once available. Until then, avoid interrupting the mlx5e driver initialization or unloading process to prevent triggering the issue.

Description

CVE-2024-50146 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mlx5e network driver where a failure during profile rollback leaves a profile pointer set to NULL. This leads to a NULL pointer dereference and kernel crash when the driver is unloaded. The issue occurs if the workqueue rescuer thread creation is interrupted, causing the rollback failure and subsequent crash during device removal.
