A fix for this vulnerability is available in the Linux kernel as described in the patch notes. Users should apply the updated kernel version containing this fix to prevent kernel crashes when uninstalling the hns3 driver. No other mitigation is indicated.
Description
CVE-2024-50296 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's hns3 network driver that causes a kernel crash when uninstalling the driver while virtual functions (VFs) are disabled concurrently. The crash occurs due to a race condition involving double resource release triggered by multiple calls to pci_disable_sriov(). This issue has been fixed by adding device locking to protect the num_VFs variable during driver removal.
