What to do

AI-suggested

  1. Immediately restrict access to the router’s management interfaces (especially mainfunction.cgi) to trusted IP addresses and networks only, using firewall rules or access control lists.
  2. Disable remote management features if not required, or enforce strong authentication and encrypted management protocols.
  3. Monitor network traffic and device logs for unusual or unauthorized requests targeting mainfunction.cgi or attempts to invoke the doPPPo function.
  4. Implement network segmentation to limit exposure of the router management interface to untrusted networks.
  5. Regularly check for firmware updates from Draytek and apply patches promptly once released to address this vulnerability.
  6. Consider deploying intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) with signatures to detect command injection attempts targeting this vulnerability.
  7. Conduct security audits and penetration testing focused on router management interfaces to identify and remediate similar weaknesses.

Description

In Draytek Vigor3900 1.5.1.3, attackers can inject malicious commands into mainfunction.cgi and execute arbitrary commands by calling the doPPPo function.
