What to do

AI-suggested

  1. Immediately isolate vulnerable DrayTek Vigor3900 devices from untrusted networks, especially the internet, to reduce exposure.
  2. Implement strict firewall rules to restrict access to the router’s management interface (mainfunction.cgi) only to trusted administrative IP addresses or VPNs.
  3. Monitor network traffic for unusual or suspicious HTTP requests targeting mainfunction.cgi or the setup_cacertificate function.
  4. Employ network intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) with updated signatures to detect potential exploitation attempts.
  5. Regularly audit and review router configurations and logs for signs of compromise or unauthorized command execution.
  6. Contact DrayTek support or monitor official channels for firmware updates or patches addressing this vulnerability and plan prompt deployment once available.
  7. Consider deploying compensating controls such as network segmentation to limit the impact of a compromised router.
  8. Educate network administrators about this vulnerability and ensure they follow secure management practices, including changing default credentials and disabling unnecessary services.
  9. If possible, temporarily disable remote management interfaces until a patch is available.

Description

DrayTek Vigor3900 1.5.1.3 allows attackers to inject malicious commands into mainfunction.cgi and execute arbitrary commands by calling the setup_cacertificate function.
