What to do
AI-suggested
To mitigate CVE-2024-52944, organizations should prioritize applying the vendor’s patch or update once it becomes available for Veritas Enterprise Vault 15.1 UPD882911 or later. Until a patch is released, implement strict input validation and output encoding on all user-supplied parameters to prevent injection of malicious scripts. Deploy Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict the execution of unauthorized scripts in browsers accessing the application. Limit user privileges to the minimum necessary to reduce the impact of compromised accounts. Monitor logs for unusual activity indicative of XSS exploitation attempts, such as suspicious HTTP parameters or repeated failed login attempts. Educate users about the risks of clicking on suspicious links even within authenticated sessions. Additionally, consider isolating the Enterprise Vault web interface behind a web application firewall (WAF) configured to detect and block XSS payloads. Regularly review and update security configurations and conduct penetration testing focused on web application vulnerabilities to proactively identify similar issues.
Description
An issue was discovered in Veritas Enterprise Vault before 15.1 UPD882911, ZDI-CAN-24698. It allows an authenticated remote attacker to inject a parameter into an HTTP request, allowing for Cross-Site Scripting while viewing archived content. This could reflect back to an authenticated user without sanitization if executed by that user.
