What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that addresses the issue by using different slab cache names for alloc_ai() callers. Users should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes this fix. Since no specific fixed versions are provided, check the vendor or Linux kernel mainline repositories for the patch corresponding to commit 4c39529663b9 or later.

Description

CVE-2024-53172 addresses a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's UBI fastmap feature where duplicate slab cache names are created during the fast attaching process. This triggers kernel warnings and can lead to a denial of service condition. The issue occurs because the alloc_ai() function is called twice with the same slab cache name 'ubi_aeb_slab_cache' when CONFIG_DEBUG_VM=y is enabled. The vulnerability has been fixed by assigning different slab cache names to the alloc_ai() callers.
