What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel by changing the code to use cache_get_rcu instead of cache_get, ensuring the cache entry remains active and preventing the use-after-free condition. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. Since no vendor advisory or patch links are provided, verify with the Linux kernel maintainers or distribution vendors for the availability of patched kernel versions.

Description

CVE-2024-53174 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SUNRPC subsystem. The issue arises because the function c_show was called with RCU protection that only prevents freeing the pointer cp, but does not prevent its reference count from dropping to zero. This can lead to a refcount use-after-free warning when cache_get is called. The vulnerability has been resolved by using cache_get_rcu to ensure the cache entry remains active during the operation.
