What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that replaces the use of drvdata with container_of() in the vector device release function. Users should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes this fix. Since this is a kernel-level issue, applying the official kernel patch or upgrading to a fixed kernel release is the recommended mitigation.

Description

CVE-2024-53181 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's um: vector driver where the release function improperly uses drvdata, which is not available during release. This misuse can cause a kernel crash (panic) when removing a vector device. The issue has been fixed by replacing the use of drvdata with container_of() to safely retrieve the vector_device instance.
