What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability is available in the Linux kernel source. Users should update to a kernel version that includes this patch to prevent kernel crashes during ubd device removal. No additional mitigation is indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-53184 addresses a flaw in the Linux kernel's um: ubd driver where the driver incorrectly used drvdata during device release, which is not available at that time. This misuse could cause a kernel crash when removing a ubd device. The issue was fixed by replacing the use of drvdata with container_of() to safely retrieve the ubd instance during release.
