What to do

AI-suggested

The described fix involves updating the bnxt_en driver code to call bnxt_set_rx_skb_mode() during MTU changes to properly configure aggregation rings and receive handlers. Until an official patch is available, avoid changing MTU settings on affected systems with XDP multi-buffering active to mitigate risk.

Description

CVE-2024-53209 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's bnxt_en driver related to handling receive ring space parameters when XDP multi-buffering is active. If the MTU is changed after attaching an XDP multi-buffer, the aggregation ring settings may become out-of-sync, potentially causing random memory corruption and kernel crashes due to hardware DMA exceeding buffer sizes. The issue is addressed by updating the aggregation ring configuration and receive handler whenever the MTU changes.
