What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Users should update to a kernel version that includes this patch. Since no cloud service is involved and no vendor advisory is provided, check the Linux kernel release notes or trusted sources for the fixed version. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data, so verify with the vendor advisory or kernel changelogs for the exact fixed version.

Description

CVE-2024-53214 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's vfio/pci subsystem related to improper handling of the first PCIe extended capability in the capability list. The flaw occurs when an unknown or intentionally hidden first capability is not properly masked, leading to an out-of-bounds access in the kernel. This issue can cause kernel warnings and potentially lead to memory safety violations. The vulnerability has been fixed by improving checks on the capability ID during configuration space read/write operations.
