A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel by reordering the events notifier registration to occur after device registration. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix.
Description
CVE-2024-53224 is a high severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's RDMA mlx5 driver. It involves a race condition during device deregistration and pkey change work, which can lead to a kernel NULL pointer dereference and system panic. The issue is fixed by reordering event notifier registration to occur after device registration, preventing work from executing after device unregistration.
