What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been applied in the Linux kernel to handle NONHEAD lclusters with delta[1] equal to zero gracefully by treating delta[1] as 1 for legacy mkfs versions and by erroring out on illegal lclusterbits values. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions once available. No additional mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

CVE-2024-53234 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's erofs filesystem handling. It involves improper handling of NONHEAD lclusters with delta[1] equal to zero, which occurs in crafted images or filesystems created by pre-1.0 mkfs versions. This flaw caused inadequate decompressed lengths affecting FIEMAP operations. The issue has been resolved by treating delta[1] as 1 for these legacy cases and by erroring out on illegal lclusterbits values greater than 14 for compact indexes.
