What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available in the Linux kernel that defers the probe of the client device until after the SMMU device is bound to the ARM SMMU driver. Users should update to a kernel version that includes this fix once it is released. Until then, no other specific mitigations are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-56568 is a race condition vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ARM SMMU (System Memory Management Unit) driver. It arises from a null pointer dereference caused by a timing issue between the SMMU device probe and the client device probe. This race leads to a crash when the client device probe accesses the SMMU pointer before it is properly bound. The issue is fixed by deferring the client device probe until after the SMMU device is fully bound to the driver.
