What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel by correcting the MST sideband message body length check. Users and administrators should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch. Since this is a kernel-level issue, upgrading to a fixed kernel version is the recommended remediation. No alternative mitigations are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-56616 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/dp_mst component that improperly checks the sideband message body length for Multi-Stream Transport (MST) devices. The flaw allows a message body length to be incorrectly set to zero despite a correct header CRC, leading to memory corruption and potential kernel errors. This issue has been fixed by ensuring the message body length is at least one byte to account for the CRC. The vulnerability has a high severity score of 7.8 CVSS v3.1.
