What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel by adding an architecture-specific huge_pte_clear() function for LoongArch. Users should update to the fixed Linux kernel version that includes this patch to resolve the issue. Since no vendor advisory or patch links are provided, check the official Linux kernel repositories or distributions for the updated kernel version containing this fix.

Description

CVE-2024-56628 addresses a vulnerability in the Linux kernel specific to the LoongArch architecture involving the handling of huge page table entries (huge_pte). The issue caused errors during memory management self-tests, leading to bad page states and kernel warnings. The flaw stemmed from improper handling of invalid huge page table entries, which should be marked with a specific invalid_pte_table or a single _PAGE_HUGE bit rather than zero. This fix aligns the handling of huge page table entries with the behavior of page middle directory (pmd) entries to prevent invalid memory states.
