Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2024-57471) in H3C N12 V100R005 is due to improper input validation leading to a buffer overflow in the 2.4G wireless network processing function. Attackers can exploit this by sending crafted POST requests to the /bin/webs endpoint, resulting in remote code execution or denial of service. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 9.8, indicating critical severity with network attack vector, no privileges or user interaction required, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. No patch or official remediation information is currently available.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows unauthenticated remote attackers to cause device crashes or execute arbitrary commands, potentially leading to full compromise of the affected device. This impacts confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the device and its network functions.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is available, restrict network access to the affected device, especially to the 2.4G wireless management interfaces and the /bin/webs endpoint, to reduce exposure.
