What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to hold a reference to mst_primary during its use in drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req(), preventing use-after-free and NULL dereference. Users should update to the fixed kernel version once available. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, applying the official kernel patch or upgrading to a patched kernel release is the recommended mitigation.

Description

CVE-2024-57798 is a use-after-free and null pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel's DRM subsystem related to DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport (MST). It occurs when the mst_primary pointer is freed and set to NULL by one thread while another thread is handling an MST up request, potentially leading to memory corruption. This flaw has been fixed by ensuring a reference to mst_primary is held during its use in drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req().
