What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to initialize the temporary variable before copying the register set from userspace, preventing uninitialized memory reads. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, upgrading to a fixed kernel version is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-57874 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's arm64 ptrace implementation related to the NT_ARM_TAGGED_ADDR_CTRL register set. The flaw arises because a temporary variable is not initialized during a partial SETREGSET call with zero length, potentially leaking up to 64 bits of kernel stack memory. The vulnerability does not allow writing arbitrary data and is limited to native AArch64 tasks manipulating other native AArch64 tasks. A fix has been implemented to initialize the temporary variable properly, preventing uninitialized memory exposure.
