What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel by nullifying the dangling pointer dqi_priv after it is freed and adding proper flag checks in quota handling functions. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is not a cloud service, manual patching is required. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data; users should consult the Linux kernel vendor advisory for the exact fixed versions and apply updates accordingly.

Description

CVE-2024-57892 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the ocfs2 filesystem implementation of the Linux kernel. It occurs when mounting ocfs2 and then remounting it as read-only, where a dangling pointer dqi_priv is accessed after being freed. This flaw can lead to high impact including confidentiality, integrity, and availability compromises. The issue was fixed by setting the dangling pointer to null after freeing and adding proper flag checks during quota operations.
