What to do

AI-suggested

Until a fix is applied, avoid unmounting Btrfs filesystems under conditions that might trigger this issue in kernel versions suspected to be vulnerable.

Description

CVE-2024-57896 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Btrfs filesystem code. It occurs during the unmount process when the cleaner kernel thread is stopped before all delayed allocation worker threads have finished, leading to a use-after-free on the task_struct. This flaw can cause memory corruption and potentially lead to system crashes or privilege escalation.
