What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that restricts the SO_REUSEPORT socket option to inet sockets, preventing the invalid mutex acquisition in RCU callbacks. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patch that implements this restriction. Since no vendor advisory or patch links are provided, check the Linux kernel mailing lists or official repositories for the relevant patch. No other mitigation is indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-57903 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel where the SO_REUSEPORT socket option was not properly restricted to inet sockets. This flaw could cause crypto sockets to be destroyed improperly from an RCU callback context, leading to a mutex acquisition in an invalid context and resulting in kernel errors. The issue has been fixed by restricting SO_REUSEPORT to inet sockets only.
