A patch is available and should be applied promptly. The vulnerability is fixed in Linux kernel versions 5.4.0-1142.152~18.04.1 and later for the linux-azure kernel and other listed fixed versions. Users should update their systems to these fixed kernel releases to mitigate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
CVE-2024-57911 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's iio dummy driver where uninitialized memory can be leaked to user space via a triggered buffer. The issue arises because the data array allocated with kmalloc() does not initialize values for inactive channels, potentially exposing sensitive kernel memory. This was fixed by switching to kzalloc() to zero-initialize the buffer memory. Multiple Linux kernel versions, including various linux-azure builds, are affected. A patch is available and has been released in fixed kernel versions.
