AI-suggested

A security update fixing this vulnerability is available from Red Hat and other OpenSSH maintainers. Users should apply the official patches promptly. Refer to the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2024:4312 and the linked update instructions at https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. Since this is a security regression, upgrading to the fixed OpenSSH version or applying vendor-provided patches is the recommended mitigation.

Description

CVE-2024-6387 is a race condition vulnerability in OpenSSH server (sshd) signal handling, reintroducing a security regression from CVE-2006-5051. An unauthenticated remote attacker may trigger unsafe signal handling by failing to authenticate within a set time. This can lead to potential remote code execution. The issue affects OpenSSH version 8.5p1. A security update is available from Red Hat and other vendors to address this flaw.
