Published: Wed Sep 04 2024 (09/04/2024, 02:33:48 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: wpjobportal
Product: WP Job Portal – AI-Powered Recruitment System for Company or Job Board website

Description

The WP Job Portal – A Complete Recruitment System for Company or Job Board website plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Local File Inclusion, Arbitrary Settings Update, and User Creation in all versions up to, and including, 2.1.6 via several functions called by the 'checkFormRequest' function. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to include and execute arbitrary files on the server, allowing the execution of any PHP code in those files. This can be used to bypass access controls, obtain sensitive data, or achieve code execution in cases where images and other “safe” file types can be uploaded and included. Attackers can also update arbitrary settings and create user accounts even when registration is disabled, leading to user creation with a default role of Administrator.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-7950 affects the WP Job Portal plugin for WordPress, allowing unauthenticated attackers to exploit a path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) via functions invoked by 'checkFormRequest'. This enables local file inclusion and arbitrary code execution on the server. Additionally, attackers can update plugin settings arbitrarily and create administrator user accounts despite registration being disabled. The vulnerability impacts all versions up to and including 2.1.6. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 9.8 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code on the server, bypass access controls, access sensitive data, modify plugin settings arbitrarily, and create administrator user accounts. This can lead to full system compromise of the affected WordPress site.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, restrict access to the affected plugin and consider disabling or removing it if possible. Monitor for updates from the vendor or plugin maintainers and apply patches promptly once available.
