Avoid using PKCS#1v1.5 padding methods in networked cryptographic operations; ensure only OAEP padding is used for decryption. Use Ruby versions linked with OpenSSL 3.2.0 or later, or versions backported with the implicit rejection mechanism for PKCS#1v1.5 padding. Monitor Red Hat advisories for official patches or updates. No immediate patch versions are specified, so follow vendor guidance for updates and mitigations.
Description
CVE-2025-0306 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Ruby interpreter related to the Marvin Attack, a covert timing channel attack. This vulnerability allows an attacker to decrypt previously encrypted messages or forge signatures by exchanging many messages with the vulnerable Ruby service. The flaw arises from the use of PKCS#1v1.5 padding in cryptographic operations, which can leak sensitive information through timing variations. The vulnerability has no known exploits in the wild and requires high attack complexity with no privileges or user interaction needed.
