What to do

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented by adjusting the locking in nilfs_lookup_dirty_data_buffers(). Users should apply the official Linux kernel patches that include this fix once available.

Description

CVE-2025-21811 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's nilfs2 filesystem code. The issue arises because nilfs_lookup_dirty_data_buffers() accesses buffers attached to dirty data folios/pages without proper locking, leading to a race condition. This can cause buffers to be freed while still in use, potentially resulting in memory corruption. The vulnerability has been resolved by adjusting the locking mechanism in the affected function.
