What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel hrtimers subsystem. Systems should apply the updated kernel version containing this fix to resolve the issue. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.

Description

CVE-2025-21816 addresses a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's hrtimers subsystem where timers queued after the CPUHP_AP_HRTIMERS_DYING stage could be incorrectly handled. This could result in timers being armed on an offline CPU, causing them to be ignored and potentially disrupting timer-based operations. The fix ensures that any timer enqueued from an offline CPU is migrated to an online CPU, eliminating the need for previous workarounds in related subsystems like RCU.
