A fix is available that modifies the ethnl_req_get_phydev() function to properly handle NULL nlattr attributes by passing the command index and nlattr array separately. Users should apply the updated Linux kernel versions that include this fix to prevent crashes caused by this vulnerability.

Description

CVE-2025-21921 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ethtool netlink interface where a NULL nlattr pointer can cause a crash when getting a phy_device. This occurs because the ethnl_req_get_phydev() function does not properly handle NULL nlattr attributes in certain notification paths, specifically with the PLCA command. The issue has been fixed by modifying the function to allow NULL-checking of the nlattr array, preventing the crash.
