AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions as listed in the established facts. Users should update their Linux kernel to one of the fixed versions to remediate this vulnerability. After updating, a system reboot is required. Additionally, due to an ABI change, third-party kernel modules must be recompiled and reinstalled. Follow vendor-specific update instructions, such as those provided by Ubuntu in advisory USN-7496-1.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's network scheduler (net_sched) allowed creation of classes with the classid TC_H_ROOT (0xFFFFFFFF), which caused premature termination of backlog counter updates in the qdisc tree traversal. This flaw could lead to incorrect parent statistics and potentially cause a crash in the Deficit Round Robin (DRR) scheduler. The issue has been fixed by preventing creation of any Qdisc class with the TC_H_ROOT classid across all qdisc types.
