A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue is fixed in updated kernel releases. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions as provided by their distribution. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's stmmac network driver involving a dangling pointer to irq affinity_hint was resolved. The issue occurs because a pointer to a stack variable is stored and later accessed after the function returns, leading to a stale pointer. This can cause a kernel panic or leak kernel memory to userspace. The flaw affects platforms using stmmac with PCI MSI, including Intel and Loongson. A patch is available to fix this issue.
