Technical Analysis

The CGM CLININET application improperly assigns permissions to the SysIO.pl configuration file, which contains sensitive credentials such as the production database login and password and RabbitMQ broker credentials. Due to insecure file permissions, any local account can read this file, leading to potential credential exposure. This vulnerability is classified as CWE-732 (Incorrect Permission Assignment for Critical Resource). The vulnerability affects all versions prior to 2026.MS3, where the issue has been fixed.

Potential Impact

Exposure of sensitive credentials stored in the SysIO.pl configuration file to any local user can lead to unauthorized access to the production database and RabbitMQ broker. This could compromise the confidentiality and integrity of the system's data and messaging infrastructure. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 6.8 (medium severity), reflecting local attack vector with low complexity and no user interaction required, but with high impact on confidentiality.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in CGM CLININET version 2026.MS3. Users should upgrade to this version to resolve the insecure file permission issue. Until the upgrade, restricting local access to the system and ensuring proper file permissions on SysIO.pl may help mitigate exposure risk.
