Until a fix is available, disabling proxy request handling in libcoap can mitigate exposure to this vulnerability.
Description
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in libcoap versions up to and including 4.3.5 in the address resolution code when proxy logic is enabled. This occurs due to copying attacker-controlled hostname data into a fixed 256-byte stack buffer without proper bounds checking. A remote attacker can cause a crash and potentially achieve remote code execution depending on compiler and runtime protections.
