Technical Analysis

IBM Cognos Analytics versions 12.1.0 through 12.1.3 FP1 and 12.0.4 through 12.0.4 FP2 contain a CWE-540 vulnerability where sensitive information is included in source code. Authenticated users could leverage this exposure to gain access to sensitive data that may facilitate further attacks against the system. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 4.3, reflecting a network attack vector with low complexity, requiring low privileges and no user interaction, impacting confidentiality only.

Potential Impact

An authenticated user can access sensitive information stored in the source code, which could be used to facilitate additional attacks. The vulnerability impacts confidentiality but does not affect integrity or availability. There are no known exploits in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict authenticated user access to trusted personnel only and monitor for suspicious activity related to source code access.
