A patch is available and has been incorporated into multiple Linux kernel versions as listed in the fixedVersions field. Users and administrators should apply the official kernel updates from their Linux distribution vendors to remediate this vulnerability. After updating the kernel, a system reboot is required to activate the fix. No additional mitigation steps are necessary beyond applying the official patches.
Description
CVE-2025-37785 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ext4 filesystem driver that causes an out-of-bounds (OOB) read when handling a corrupted directory entry. The flaw occurs if the '.' directory entry's record length equals the block size, leading to an invalid pointer dereference past the allocated memory block. This can happen during removal of the corrupted directory. The issue was detected by the syzkaller tool and fixed by adding additional boundary checks in the ext4 directory entry validation code.
