AI-suggested

A fix has been applied to the Linux kernel that reverts the problematic commit and updates the code to consistently treat platform_max as a control value. Users should update to the fixed Linux kernel versions to resolve this issue. The affected versions explicitly listed are 5.15.148, 6.1.74, and 6.6.7, so upgrading beyond these versions or to patched releases is recommended.

Description

CVE-2025-37889 addresses an inconsistency in the Linux kernel's ASoC (ALSA System on Chip) subsystem regarding the interpretation of the platform_max value. The vulnerability involved treating platform_max sometimes as a maximum register value and other times as the maximum control value, causing inconsistent behavior. The patch reverts a previous commit and updates the code to consistently treat platform_max as a control value, which aligns with the typical use case of limiting volume from the machine driver perspective. Additional comments were added to the relevant data structures to prevent future confusion.
