What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented upstream in the Linux kernel. Users and administrators should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel-level issue, updating to a patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation. No additional workarounds or mitigations are described.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's huge memory management subsystem (mm/huge_memory) involves dereferencing an invalid PMD migration entry during transparent huge page (THP) migration. This can cause invalid address access and lead to a kernel page fault. The issue arises from concurrent access to the PMD migration entry during a deferred split scan. The flaw has been fixed by adding a check on the PMD migration entry to return early and avoid invalid access.
