AI-suggested
A patch is available and included in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1097 and later builds as listed in the established fixed versions. Users should update their Linux kernel packages to these fixed versions and reboot their systems to apply the changes. Due to an ABI change, recompilation and reinstallation of third-party kernel modules may be required. Follow vendor instructions for updating and rebuilding kernel modules as necessary.
Description
CVE-2025-38022 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's RDMA core subsystem related to the function ib_register_device. The issue arises because the device name is accessed without proper lock protection in kobject_uevent(), while it is renamed with a lock in ib_device_rename(). This race condition can lead to a slab-use-after-free error detected by KASAN. The vulnerability has been fixed by adding lock protection in the kobject_uevent() function. Multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 5.15.0-1097 and related builds are affected. A patch is available and included in updated kernel versions.
