AI-suggested

An official fix is available and should be applied by updating to a patched Linux kernel version. The Ubuntu security advisory USN-7769-1 confirms that this and other Linux kernel vulnerabilities have been fixed. Users should update their Linux kernel packages to versions that include this fix. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's virtio subsystem was resolved that caused virtio devices, specifically virtio-console, to continue writing to MMIO after the underlying virtio-pci device was reset during device shutdown. This led to system hangs and invalid memory accesses, particularly affecting kexec in virtual machines. The issue was due to devices not being properly broken and reset on shutdown, causing IOMMU errors and device wedging. A fix is available that breaks and resets all virtio devices on virtio bus shutdown.
