AI-suggested
A patch is available and included in multiple Linux kernel versions starting from 5.15.0-1083.86~20.04.1 and similar releases. Users should update their Linux kernel to one of the fixed versions provided by their distribution, such as those listed in the Ubuntu advisory USN-7704-1, and reboot the system to apply the changes. Due to an ABI change, recompilation and reinstallation of third-party kernel modules may be required. No additional mitigation is necessary beyond applying the official fixes.
Description
A double free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's crypto subsystem (algif_hash) was fixed. The flaw occurs when accept(2) is called on an algif_hash socket with MSG_MORE flag set and crypto_ahash_import fails, causing a double free and potential use-after-free error. This vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to the fixed releases. The issue was addressed in several patched kernel versions, and users are advised to update and reboot to apply the fixes.
