A patch is available and has been released in various Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1097.104~20.04.1 and later. Users and administrators should update to these fixed kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
CVE-2025-39766 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's network scheduler (net/sched) subsystem involving the cake_enqueue function. When the buffer limit is exceeded, cake_enqueue incorrectly returns NET_XMIT_SUCCESS instead of NET_XMIT_CN, which can cause a WARNING in htb_activate due to empty child queue activation. This flaw affects certain Linux kernel versions prior to 5.15.0-1097.104~20.04.1 and similar builds. The issue has been fixed in multiple 5.15.0 kernel releases.
