AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to correct the checksum offload error handling in the stmmac driver. The Ubuntu advisory USN-8029-1 confirms that this and other kernel vulnerabilities have been fixed. Users should update to kernel versions 6.8.0-1050.53~22.04.1 or later where this issue is resolved.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's stmmac network driver caused corrupt packets to be treated as valid due to improper handling of hardware checksum offload errors. The stmmac_rx function incorrectly set packet checksum status without verifying if the hardware reported errors, potentially allowing corrupt packets to pass up the network stack. This issue has been fixed by correcting the checksum validation logic to properly detect and handle checksum errors.
