AI-suggested
A vendor-supplied official fix is available and should be applied promptly. Ubuntu has released patched linux-hwe-edge kernel versions that address this vulnerability. Users should upgrade to the fixed versions 6.17.0-1007.7~24.04.1 or later as per the Ubuntu Security Notice USN-8029-1. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official update.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ASoC Intel AVS driver was resolved by synchronizing the shutdown procedure with period-elapsed work to prevent freeing memory while IRQs are serviced. This flaw could lead to serious memory corruption issues. The vulnerability affects certain versions of the linux-hwe-edge kernel prior to 6.17.0-1007.7~24.04.1, 6.17.0-1008.8~24.04.1, 6.17.0-1008.8, and 6.17.0-1011.11. A patch is available and has been released by Ubuntu as part of a broader Linux kernel security update addressing multiple issues.
