AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to update the Linux kernel to a fixed version. The affected versions are prior to 5.15.0-1103.110~20.04.1, 5.15.0-1110.119~20.04.1, 5.15.0-1114.123~20.04.1, 5.15.0-1103.112~20.04.1, and 5.15.0-173.183~20.04.1. Users should upgrade to versions at or beyond these to mitigate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's usb storage driver for sddr55 was resolved. The issue involved accepting out-of-bound new_pba values from status packets after writes, which could cause the driver to access memory beyond allocated bounds and corrupt heap memory. The fix rejects PBAs exceeding the computed block count and fails the transfer to prevent out-of-range memory access. This vulnerability affects certain Linux kernel versions prior to specific patched releases. The vulnerability is rated medium severity and has been patched in updated kernel versions.
