Red Hat advises against connecting client applications that use the libsoup library to untrusted HTTP servers until an updated version containing a fix is released. This precaution helps prevent denial-of-service conditions caused by this vulnerability.
Description
CVE-2025-4476 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the libsoup HTTP client library. It occurs when a libsoup client processes a 401 Unauthorized HTTP response containing a specially crafted domain parameter in the WWW-Authenticate header, causing a NULL pointer dereference and crashing the client application. Exploitation requires tricking a user's application into connecting to a malicious HTTP server controlled by an attacker. The impact is limited to crashing the specific client instance, with no broader system compromise. Red Hat rates this vulnerability as low severity and advises avoiding connections to untrusted HTTP servers until a fixed version is available.
