Technical Analysis

The vulnerability exists in the mp4_mux_cenc_insert_pssh function within the filters/mux_isom.c source file of GPAC MP4Box version 2.4. An attacker can supply a crafted MP4 file that triggers an out-of-memory condition, causing the application to crash or become unresponsive, resulting in a denial of service. No CVSS score or detailed exploit information is available, and no patch or remediation guidance has been provided.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in a denial of service due to out-of-memory conditions when processing malicious MP4 files. This can disrupt service availability for users relying on GPAC MP4Box v2.4 for media processing.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted or suspicious MP4 files with GPAC MP4Box v2.4 to reduce exposure.
