Source: CVE Database V5

Description

MikroTik firmware 7.19.4 stores sensitive authentication credentials and network state in cleartext within non-volatile storage. An attacker with physical access to the device can extract this material from an SPI flash dump, without authenticating to the device and without knowledge of the administrative password.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-56566 identifies a vulnerability in MikroTik firmware 7.19.4 where sensitive authentication credentials and network state information are stored unencrypted in non-volatile SPI flash memory. This allows an attacker who gains physical access to the device to retrieve these credentials directly from the flash memory dump without any authentication, potentially compromising device security and network integrity.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthorized extraction of sensitive credentials and network state information by anyone with physical access to the device. This could lead to unauthorized administrative access or network compromise if the extracted credentials are reused or leveraged. However, remote exploitation is not indicated; physical access is required.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict physical access to affected devices to prevent unauthorized extraction of stored credentials.
