What to do

AI-suggested

Organizations should immediately assess their deployment of the Cohesity TranZman Migration Appliance and restrict access to the vulnerable TapeDumper component to trusted administrators only. Network segmentation and strict access controls should be enforced to limit exposure. Monitoring and logging of access to the /opt/SRLtzm/bin/TapeDumper binary and related processes should be implemented to detect suspicious activity. Until an official patch is released, consider disabling or restricting the TapeDumper component if feasible, or running it with the least privileges necessary. Employ host-based intrusion detection systems (HIDS) to identify unauthorized file access or privilege escalation attempts. Regularly audit user privileges and remove unnecessary elevated rights. Stay informed about vendor updates and apply patches promptly once available. Additionally, conduct penetration testing focused on privilege escalation vectors within the appliance environment to identify and remediate any other weaknesses.

Description

Incorrect access control in the component /opt/SRLtzm/bin/TapeDumper of Cohesity TranZman Migration Appliance Release 4.0 Build 14614 allows attackers to escalate privileges to root and read and write arbitrary files.
